Buffalo adds a young veteran looking for a second chance
The Buffalo Bills added one wide receiver via the 2024 NFL Draft, and on Sunday, it was reported that they added a veteran receiver to the room. According to his agent, former Detroit Lions receiver Quintez Cephus is signing with the Bills.
General manager Brandon Beane said in his end-of-draft press conference that the team was “signing a receiver [they’d] worked out,” and it appears that Cephus is that player. A former fifth-round draft choice of the Lions in the 2020 NFL Draft. He played his college ball at Wisconsin, and his best season was his junior year in 2019. He caught 59 passes for 901 yards and seven touchdowns that season before declaring for the draft.
As a pro, Cephus’ career has been marred by injury and scandal. He played in 13 games as a rookie, starting two. He caught 20 passes for 349 yards and two scores that year. He played in just five games in his second season before landing on Injured Reserve thanks to a shoulder injury. In 2022, he managed to suit up for only four games before a foot injury ended his season.
In 2023, Cephus was suspended by the league for betting on NFL games. He was released by the Lions in the wake of the news, and he served his one-year suspension before being reinstated earlier this month.
Cephus joins second-round pick Keon Coleman and free agent signees Curtis Samuel and Mack Hollins in a remade wide receiver room. Khalil Shakir and Andy Isabella remain on the roster as the only wide receivers who saw targets from quarterback Josh Allen last season.
