Ravens Could Disrupt Potential Bills Reunion After Devastating Injury News

May 16, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

jordan poyer bills reunion

After Ar’Darius Washington’s season-ending injury, the Baltimore Ravens could disrupt the potential reunion between Jordan Poyer and the Buffalo Bills. According to reports, the safety wants to come back to Buffalo for at least one more season and retire with the Bills. Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the former Oregon State product became one of the reasons why the Bills have been flourishing for the past five seasons since 2017. However, he was no longer a part of the team anymore since he no longer fit the Bill to remain in Buffalo, so he spent just one campaign with the Miami Dolphins, missing his first postseason in a while.

Poyer is a Pro Bowler who put 12 sacks, recovered nine fumble recoveries and notched 904 total tackles. He has the talent to be great again, but since he’s aging, Poyer will probably only garner a one-year deal. With that, this should interest the Ravens, who probably need a safety to help Kyle Hamilton alongside him despite drafting first-round pick of this year, Malaki Starks. The good news is that Poyer doesn’t need to start to make an impact on this defense.

Since the Ravens are obviously a rival team for the Bills, there could be other teams that may become interested in Poyer. The safety could garner some type of interest, so here are two teams that may fit better if Poyer refuses to sign a deal with the Ravens.

Potential trade destinations Higgins
Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer (21) and cornerback Tre’Davious White (27) collide over Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins (85) as they cover a deep pass in the fourth quarter of the NFL divisional playoff football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills, Sunday, Jan. 22, 2023, at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, N.Y. The Bengals won 27-10 to advance to the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Ravens Could Disrupt Potential Jordan Poyer Bills Reunion After Devastating Injury News – Saints, Panthers Logical Fits

Backing up Tyrann Mathieu

Last season, the New Orleans Saints had one of the worst pass secondaries in the league. They couldn’t win any ballgames or even be close in several matchups because of their defense. However, the good news is that they signed Justin Reid to a worthy contract, even though the Saints are in debt. If Mickey Loomis could pull that off, they could afford at least a one-year deal for Poyer to bring some extra juice to this secondary.

The Saints still have a lot of holes in their cornerback department, and there’s not much hope in Kool-Aid McKinstry and Alontae Taylor. These two have a lot of potential, but nothing on the level of Poyer could provide. Even though Poyer is no cornerback, he could make an impact behind Tyrann Mathieu in rotation as a capable veteran duo to keep this roster intact, regardless of the rough offseason the offense is sustaining.

Help for Trevon Moehrig

However, the Carolina Panthers are still in the market for a safety. Trevon Moehrig is a blockbuster addition to this pass secondary, but they still need a capable upgrade over Nick Scott. Poyer is a better fit in the Panthers’ situation, that have a promising quarterback and a new offense that is ready to endure a huge turnaround. The safety could boost this secondary to levels the Panthers haven’t seen before.

He won’t be like an Ed Reed 2.0 this upcoming season if a team decides to sign him, but Poyer may be able to rejuvenate Carolina in the locker room.
