Ravens, Chiefs May Sign 7.0-Sack Linebacker After Waive

The Ravens, Chiefs may sign 7.0-sack linebacker Nicholas Morrow after his waive from the Buffalo Bills. According to reports, the team is promoting quarterback Mike White by releasing Morrow to make room on the starting roster. Originally selected as an undrafted free agent in 2017, the Las Vegas Raiders took a chance on him to see what he could do in his early days. He competed for a starting spot in his first training camp against Marquel Lee and Tyrell Adams.

However, after his rookie season, Morrow put up a total of 40 tackles, four pass deflections in 16 games and five starts. Morrow became a journeyman for the majority of his career after spending some seasons with the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles. He didn’t get one single start in his career after his stint with the Raiders so he might not be anything more than just a depth fill. Furthermore, Morrow should be able to make an impact in a situational role for a contender that needs more bodies.

He won’t be a modern-day superstar defender but teams like the Ravens, Chiefs could use another defensive piece in time for a competitive postseason.

Postseason Help

The Baltimore Ravens have the palms in their possession to make a deep run in the upcoming postseason. The offense has been looking like a bulldozer with Derrick Henry running through defenders and Zay Flowers excelling in the aerial attack. However, the defense has its fair share of inconsistencies they must work through to have a successful playoff. The pass defense led by Marlon Humphrey hasn’t been the strongest in recent memory since losing Geno Stone but bodies like Odafe Oweh have been stepping up to disrupt the vision for opposing quarterbacks.

Furthermore, they could use another solid option behind David Ojabo that could keep the defense stable. After losing Jadeveon Clowney this past offseason, the defense is getting younger and the Ravens must do something to have a veteran pass rusher to stop opposing offenses.

Extra Depth

Meanwhile, the Chiefs have the right playmakers on the team’s passing game along with superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. However, the Josh Uche trade has been a disappointment for the majority of the season. While Morrow probably won’t replicate the success that Nick Bolton is contributing to the Chiefs’ defense, they could use him in third-down possessions. The Chiefs might benefit from taking a low risk of signing someone like Morrow to throw him out there to fill the gap.

Other Suitors

However, there will be plenty of contenders looking toward the free-agent market before the playoffs begin. Teams like the Chargers might want to bring in an extra body to help with the stress that Joey Bosa isn’t able to sustain. Meanwhile, Khalil Mack is playing his best football but Morrow’s presence could revitalize the rest of the men on the roster. Nobody loves playing old-school football than head coach Jim Harbaugh so perhaps, Morrow could be that athlete to contribute to those aspirations

Moreover, the Eagles could reunite with Morrow which may make sense considering he knows the defensive system. After releasing Devin White earlier this season, they could use the depth behind Nakobe Dean. Morrow doesn’t need to be full-time but makes a few plays to make the opposing offense’s life harder.
