PFF names both Bills OTs, Dion Dawkins, Daryl Williams among NFL's best

Pro Football Focus named the Buffalo Bills’ Dion Dawkins and Daryl Williams in the top 32 of their offensive tackle rankings. And they may have identified the league’s best duo at the position in the process.

Dawkins slotted in at No. 21 while Williams joined him on the list at 28. The Saints, 49ers, Cowboys, Rams, Lions, and Ravens also had a pair of OT’s make the list, though notably, only New Orleans also boasted a duo in the top 28.

Here is what PFF had to say about the Bills pair:

21. DION DAWKINS, BUFFALO BILLS

Dawkins is the model of consistency when it comes to protecting the quarterback. His career-low pass-blocking grade sits at 76.2 (2018), while his career-high is 79.2 (2020). His run blocking has been shakier, but he was more impactful in that facet in 2020 than in the two seasons prior to that. Dawkins earned a 75.1 run-blocking grade last year, which was more than 10 grading points better than his 2018 and 2019 marks and closer to his 2017 rookie campaign number.

28. DARYL WILLIAMS, BUFFALO BILLS

After an injury-plagued, up-and-down five-year stint with Carolina to begin his NFL career, Williams joined the Bills prior to the 2020 season to be their starting right tackle. Not only did he play in all 19 games, but he also played at an extremely high level. His 80.0 pass-blocking grade ranked fourth among right tackles. If Williams can stay healthy and piece together another season like that in 2021, I suspect he will shoot up this list.

At ages 27 and 28, Dawkins and Williams fit the bill of Buffalo’s under-30 surplus of talent the team has aimed to develop. A Temple Owl, Dawkins was selected by Buffalo in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft in the University’s home of Philadelphia. Williams, meanwhile, was an Oklahoma product and 2015 fourth-round pick of GM Brandon Beane and head coach Sean McDermott’s former team, the Carolina Panthers.

While Dawkins worked his way into a position role in-house, Williams has taken a slightly longer road to his Bills success. His handful of years with Carolina were riddled with injury setbacks, though in his first year with Buffalo he played a healthier full season and more to his ability,

If both players can replicate or improve upon their 2020 campaigns, then Josh Allen, the teams’ offense, and Bills fans alike may have more to celebrate in the 2021 season.
