Mitchell Trubisky‘s tenure with the Chicago Bears certainly didn’t end on the highest note. After four years, the franchise elected to move on from the former No. 2 pick.
Trubisky struggled as a rookie, but looked to be making real gains in 2018. He went 11-3 as a starter, throwing for 3,223 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
His numbers slid pretty significantly in 2019, and didn’t rebound enough in 2020 well enough for the team to commit to him long term. Now, he’s backing up Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills, and seems pretty pleased with his new situation, all things considered.
Trubisky said the game “feels a lot more pure” in Buffalo, after feeling the Bears lose faith in him. He also said he’s happy to “feel wanted” with his new franchise. Naturally, Bears fans and others around the NFL world haven’t taken it too well.
I don’t have a problem with Mitch Trubisky saying he feels like he is better supported in Buffalo than he was in Chicago, but I hope he realizes the difference in support/expectations between being a face of the franchise and a backup to a superstar QB who is not losing his job

It’s hard to blame Bears fans here. Trubisky was taken No. 2, and started 51 games over four seasons, including 12 as a rookie. The team was clearly prepared for him to be the franchise quarterback.
His play was just never up to par. At best, he looked like he may be a league average quarterback in 2018, which would still be disappointing given where he was picked. He was well below that level for a significant portion of his other three seasons, averaging just 6.7 yards per attempt, and finishing with 64 touchdowns and 37 interceptions.
Perhaps the Buffalo Bills, who helped Josh Allen prove plenty wrong and become one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, can help develop Trubisky into someone who can start elsewhere. His time with the Bears had clearly run its course, though.
