This week the NFL announced how roster cuts will be made this offseason. The plan from a year ago returns.
Just as it did last season, the process of trimming the roster down will begin in the preseason and the NFL has proved a vote to bring back the gradual roster cut.
Rosters will be cut down to 85 players after the first preseason game, 80 players after the second preseason game, and then to 53 players after the third preseason game.
Over recent memory, the league has changed such rules from time-to-time.
Previously the NFL had similar rules to where rosters would periodically have to be cut down after games then that changed.
Prior to the current rules, NFL teams were allowed to take their 90-man roster all the way to the final preseason game.
That set off a mad dash to sign players when cuts were announced at the end of the preseason.
The final cut date down to 53 players is slated for Aug. 23. Players cut at that point will be placed on waivers. If not picked up, the Bills can re-sign a group of them to their practice squad.
