An old friend is coming for the Buffalo Bills.
Or at least he’s on track to soon face them.
According to our friends at Washington Football Wire, Fitzpatrick will be Washington’s opening day starter. Head coach Ron Riviera made that decision over the weekend.
Fitzpatrick signed a one-year contract in March. He was competing with Taylor Heinicke for the starting job during training camp, however, plenty of speculation has recently insisted that it was only a matter of time that Fitzpatrick was named starter.
Fitzpatrick, 38, hasn’t played for the Bills since 2012. However, his tenure, which began in 2009, made him into a long-time fan favorite.
Because of that, Fitzpatrick will likely get a warm reception in Orchard Park if he hangs onto his starting job for a few weeks.
The Bills host the Football Team in 2021. That game will occur in Week 3.
Washington ended up being Buffalo’s added 17th game opponent when the NFL approved the addition of an extra game starting next season.
And worth noting this extremely important thing: Fitzpatrick has a career record of 3-5 when facing the Bills.
