Ken Dorsey: Josh Allen will help him adjust to offensive coordinator role

June 5, 2022 by Bills Wire Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills have a new offensive coordinator in Ken Dorsey…but not totally new.

Dorsey was previously Buffalo’s quarterbacks coach. He’s very familiar with Josh Allen & Co.

Now as the OC, he takes over for the departed Brian Daboll.

But Dorsey thinks the transition to offensive coordinator has gone–and will go–smoothly because of his prior relationships. Namely with Allen.

From the second week of Bills OTAs (organized team activities) this week, Dorsey said via video conference that Allen’s been a helpful tool in regard to handling the entire offense.

“I feel like having a good feel for him on kind of how he reacts to things, the things he likes, the things he doesn’t like, and I think all that’s really important,” Dorsey said. “I think we’re both extremely competitive and we both have a similar philosophy in we’ll both want to do whatever it takes to help our team win.”

The coach admits there will be times the two might not be on the same page. That’s the nature of a coach-player relationship, though.

On Allen’s end, Dorsey already got the seal of approval as well. Not that he didn’t already before even being promoted, but now Allen says similarities between his new and old coach have added to that.

“Everybody’s got their own style, their own flair, in terms of what they want to show, what they want the defense to think they’re trying to call,” Allen said. “The one thing that [Daboll and Dorsey] do share is an extremely competitive nature. They get fired up in practice and they start yapping a little bit to the defensive guys, and they want to call their best stuff.”

Perhaps more importantly, other positional players are giving the early thumbs up. Wide receiver Stefon Diggs was amongst those.

“I got 100 percent confidence in Dorse,” Diggs said.

A good spring start for the Buffalo offense under Dorsey’s watch.
