NFL owners approved a new playoff format for overtime this Tuesday that’ll allow both teams to get at least one possession. This rule change has sparked a lot of tweets about Bills quarterback Josh Allen.
Allen was nearly perfect against the Chiefs in the Divisional Round of the playoffs, completing 27 of 37 passes for 329 yards and four touchdowns. He also had 68 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Unfortunately for Allen, the Bills lost the coin toss in overtime and gave up a touchdown to the Chiefs on the very first possession.
Under the new overtime rules, Allen would’ve had a chance to lead the Bills on a game-tying drive in the playoffs. That’s why he’s trending on Twitter this afternoon.
“Had this been the case during this year’s playoffs…. Josh Allen would have taken the field with a chance,” NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport said.

Rams head coach Sean McVay also commented on this subject.
“I don’t think there would be anyone that would disagree that Josh Allen probably deserved a possession in the playoffs,” McVay said at the NFL’s Annual League Meeting.
Sean McVay was asked if he thinks the NFL should change the OT rules.
