Plus, taking a look at a 53-man roster projection to see if there are any surprises.
The Buffalo Bills have claimed the last five AFC East championships and have advanced into the AFC Championship game twice in the last five years. Their head coach, Sean McDermott, has won 86 regular season games and seven playoff games since taking over in 2017.
But with the Bills coming off another close loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs, there is mounting pressure on reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen and the Bills to get past the Chiefs, win the AFC and advance into their first Super Bowl since the 1993 NFL season.
Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off with thoughts on whether Sean McDermott is truly on the hot seat entering his ninth season leading the Bills.
Is Sean McDermott on the hot seat?
Head coach Sean McDermott trails only Marv Levy for most wins in franchise history, and his regular-season winning percentage of .656 is the best mark in the history of the Bills. But despite the wins in the regular season, McDermott has been unable to solve his mentor, Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, in the playoffs, losing all four postseason matchups, including the 2020 and 2024 AFC title games.
Which raises the question: Is McDermott at risk of losing his job this year? Both USA Today and Bleacher Report think so, ranking McDermott among the top 10 coaches on the hot seat, while The Buffalo News thinks McDermott’s job is safe heading into the season.
