The Buffalo Bills signed former Olympic wrestler Gable Steveson despite no football experience. Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Ramon Foster blasted the move.
During a Monday radio interview on Knoxville’s 104-5 The Zone, Foster expressed his disdain for Buffalo adding the Olympic gold medalist to a three-year rookie deal.
“Hate it. Hate every bit of this,” Foster said. “No, you were pro in a different sport. Hate it. And I ain’t mad at him. Just call me a hater because I hate this. You can’t just show up to go practice and think that you can do this.”
Foster called wrestling a “cool part” of playing football and noted that other players have grappling backgrounds. However, he doesn’t think that experience qualifies Steveson for a chance to flourish as a defensive lineman.
The retired guard said he hopes the Bills let Pro Bowl guard Dion Dawkins “have his way” with Steveson during practices to humble the 24-year-old.
“I’m tired of these folks just trying to walk out here and think, ‘Oh because I’m physical, I’m strong, I can move good in quick space, that I can play in the NFL.’ No, boo that man,” Foster declared.
The conversation went on for minutes before someone noted that Steveson was accused of rape during his time at the University of Minnesota. He didn’t face criminal charges in part because the state had prohibited a willingly intoxicated person from making sexual assault allegations, a law Minnesota amended in 2021.
Foster said there’s “no way” the recently released WWE developmental talent makes the Buffalo roster. He predicted that Caitlin Clark’s rookie experience in the WNBA would be nothing compared to how NFL players treat Steveson.
