Cole Beasley, Gabriel Davis in 5-day COVID reentry process

August 25, 2021 by Bills Wire Leave a Comment

(Update: 12:07 p.m.): Speaking via press conference, Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier has confirmed that Milano, Klein and Lotulelei will not practice on Tuesday. He did not mention the reasoning being COVID-related but said the team will update the situation at some point later in the day.

Previous coverage:

(Update: 11:50 a.m.): LBs Matt Milano, AJ Klein have reportedly been added to the list of Bills players sent home because of a COVID-19 safety protocol for unvaccinated players.

Report: Matt Milano, A.J. Klein sent home via COVID protocol, Bills list up to 5

(Update: 10:51 p.m.): DT Star Lotulelei also joins Beasley, David on five-day COVID reentry list:

Star Lotulelei joins Cole Beasley, Gabe Davis on COVID reentry protocol

Previous coverage:

Two Buffalo Bills wide receivers in Cole Beasley and Gabriel Davis are currently in a COVID-19 safety protocol due to a close contact with the virus. It will keep the pair sidelined for five days.

According to NFL reporter Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News, both Beasley and Davis did test negative for COVID-19. However, they were considered to be in close contact with a training staff member that did record a positive result.

In this scenario with the latest NFL protocols involving COVID, the Bills would still have Beasley and Davis at practices this week if the players were vaccinated. Since they are not, that’s where the reentry protocol comes into play:

Buffalo #Bills news: Per a source, Cole Beasley & Gabriel Davis passed this morning’s COVID test (came back negative) but have been removed from facility & must undergo 5-day reentry process as close contacts to a member of team’s training staff who tested positive for #COVID19

The report did not indicate which training camp member was the one that tested positive for COVID-19, but one could speculate that it might have been a wide receivers-related coach. If that is the case, that could mean the rest of Buffalo’s wideouts are vaccinated.

Both Stefon Diggs and Emmanuel Sanders had previously indicated via social media that they did plan to be vaccinated prior to training camp’s start.

Throughout the offseason, Beasley has been among the most vocal players in the entire NFL that is against COVID-vaccination requirements. Earlier in training camp, Beasley said he is not “anti-vaccine,” rather, in his mind, he is “pro choice.”

Since then, Beasley has not discussed the topic after doing so extensively via social media throughout the offseason.

Bills Wire will continue to follow the topic as it unfolds. Check back for future updates.
