CBS Sports: 2022 is 'make-or-break year' for Bills' Tremaine Edmunds

June 23, 2022 by Bills Wire Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills exercised the fifth-year options on their 2018 Round 1 picks, Josh Allen and Tremaine Edmunds, at the same time.

Allen went on to sign an extension.

Edmunds has yet to.

That fifth year in Edmunds’ contract is slated for 2022. He’s a free agent following the year and because of that, he was an easy selection for CBS Sports‘ list of “make-or-break” NFL players in 2022.

The Bills have a decision to make on the linebacker, and the outlet says Edmunds’ play will naturally help the team do just that:

If you ask around Buffalo how fans feel about Edmunds, you’ll likely get a variety of answers. To some, he’s a liability against the run and in coverage whose first-round draft status is more the reason why he’s an entrenched starter than quality play. To others, he’s a soccer net in the middle of Buffalo’s pass defense, a 6-4, 250-pound rangy linebacker who has his flaws but also does so much for one of the league’s best defenses that goes unnoticed in the stat sheet. To me, the truth lies somewhere between those schools of thought, but his size and athleticism blend undoubtedly makes him a unique asset for Sean McDermott and defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier.

All things considered, what CBS Sports is getting at is dollars and cents. To an extent, both the Bills and Edmunds likely wouldn’t mind keeping him around in Buffalo with the play he’s put together.

Not to mention, he’s played four NFL seasons and is still only 24 years old. That means there will be some projecting forward to still make with the defender.

It’s going to be tough figuring out a suitable dollar amount for Edmunds before seeing his upcoming season.
