Plus, Buffalo makes it official, agreeing with WR Quintez Cephus on a one-year deal.
In a move that was widely expected to occur following comments general manager Brandon Beane made at the NFL’s annual owners’ meeting earlier in the spring, the Buffalo Bills have exercised the fifth-year option for 2021 first-round pick Greg Rousseau.
Today’s edition of the Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by examining what the news means for Rousseau and the Bills moving forward.
Bills picking up fifth-year option for DE Greg Rousseau
When Brandon Beane was asked by a reporter about the contract status of defensive end Greg Rousseau, a first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, he mentioned there was no reason for the team to not pick up his fifth-year option, and the team made that official Monday.
By picking up the option, Rousseau will remain under contract with the Bills through the 2025 season, and Buffalo can still work on hammering out a contract extension with Rousseau, who has turned into a complete member of the Bills’ defensive line. May 2 was the deadline for teams to exercise fifth-year options for draftees in the Class of 2021.
According to Over The Cap, Rousseau’s fifth-year cap projection is $13.4 million. This upcoming season Rousseau has a cap hit of $3.7 million.
