Buffalo Bills Unveil Team Captains for the 2025 Season

September 3, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Buffalo Bills are set to face the Baltimore Ravens in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. As preparations begin for the first game of the season, the Bills announced quarterback Josh Allen and linebacker Terrel Bernard as captains for the 2025 season. Allen and Bernard have both served as captains in previous seasons for the Bills. Allen has been a Bills team captain for the last seven seasons, and this is Bernard’s 2nd season as a team captain.

Bills Offensive Captain:  Quarterback Josh Allen

As the unchallenged leader of the Buffalo Bills’ offense, quarterback Josh Allen is an obvious choice to represent the offense.  Allen enters the 2025 season riding the momentum of his first NFL MVP season in 2024.  The Bills’ offensive philosophy is built around the dual-threat capabilities of Allen.
During the 2024 season, Allen completed 307 out of 483 pass attempts, resulting in 3,731 passing yards.  In addition, Allen threw 28 touchdown passes and only six interceptions in 2024.  Allen also contributed to the Bills’ rushing offense with 102 carries for 531 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns.  The fate of the 2025 Buffalo Bills season rests on the broad shoulders of Allen.

Bills Defensive Captain:  Linebacker Terrel Bernard

Like Josh Allen on offense, Terrel Bernard has become a foundation for the Buffalo defense over the last two seasons. In 2023, Bernard played all 17 regular-season games, recording 84 solo tackles, 59 assists, 6.5 sacks, and five pass deflections. His performance earned the young linebacker the title of defensive team captain for the Bills in 2024.
During his first season as defensive captain, Bernard played 13 games due to injuries. Despite missing four, he recorded 55 solo tackles, 49 assists, 1 sack, three pass deflections, three hurries, and one interception. Being chosen captain for a second straight year demonstrates the Bills’ confidence in Bernard’s ability to deliver a strong 2025 season.
