The first round of NFL training camp cuts is underway, with the AFC runner-up Buffalo Bills being the first team to get down to 85 players.
Buffalo trimmed five players from its 90-man roster today, cutting three offensive linemen, a linebacker and a defensive lineman. Included among the released was veteran defensive tackle Eli Ankou.
The 27-year-old Ankou has appeared in 27 games over the last four seasons, most recently spending time with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020. The former UCLA star posted five tackles in seven games with Dallas.
Ankou played in nine games with two starts for the Cleveland Browns in 2019, recording seven tackles. He spent his first two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he contributed 15 tackles and 1.5 sacks as a rookie in 2017.

Other than Ankou, Benenoch (35 career NFL appearances, including 16 starts with the Buccaneers in 2018) is the only other player who was cut who has played extensively in the league.
NFL teams must get down to 85 players by Tuesday afternoon and 80 players on August 24 before filing their 53-man rosters on August 31.
