Buffalo Bills’ injury list gets much longer as team throws on pads at training camp

The Buffalo Bills are playing it safe with their roster.

The Buffalo Bills injury list has significantly grown over the first few days of training camp, and as they suited up in pads for the first time Monday, head coach Sean McDermott shared a very long list of new additions to the injury report.

This injury list from Sean McDermott is very long.

“Not ideal.”

“It’s not ideal, especially with the names that are on there,” said McDermott to kick off his press conference. McDermott also noted that it allows other guys a chance to “step in and do the job.”

The one on everyone’s mind to start the day was Tyrell Shavers, who was carted off the field on Sunday with a lower leg injury. It didn’t look good but McDermott said the ankle was not serious. Still, the Bills added former Buffalo receiver Deon Cain as a precaution. Curtis Samuel (hamstring), Elijah Moore, and Kaden Prather all sat out with soreness, further limiting the WR room. Laviska Shenault was back in the lineup after missing Sunday.

Dalton Kincaid joined Dawson Knox on the non-practice report. Kincaid wore a sleeve on the knee he injured last year and sat out due to soreness. He was on or near the field during practice alongside Knox, hyping up teammates, and neither of them spent time on the bikes. Jackson Hawes and Zach Davidson received bonus reps as a result.

On the offensive line Sedrick Van Pran-Granger (calf) was out along with Spencer Brown. Tylan Grable was the first man through the first-team reps at right tackle. Alec Anderson was sidelined during practice and Jacob Bayer was taking second-team reps at center with SVPG out.

The Bills were without a kicker on Monday as Tyler Bass has pelvic soreness. Not sure I like that particular descriptor. Before practice the Bills coach said he wasn’t sure if Bass would practice or not but he was not on the field.

The defense was much healthier with only linebackers out. Dorian Williams and Terrel Bernard (hamstring) were both on the field for walk-through work but on the bikes during portions of practice. That they were there for install likely means they are close to a return.

On a morning when air temperatures reached 90 degrees, at least a few players experienced some heat-related illnesses today, as well.
