Breaking: Superstar All-Pro Skipping Workouts Amid Contract Issues – Could Seek a Trade

Superstar All-Pro tight end George Kittle is skipping workouts this offseason as he may seek a trade if he doesn’t get a new contract before the 2025 campaign. According to reports, while it’s only voluntary workouts, the tight end may end up skipping the entire NFL Training Camp until he receives a contract that fits into what he wants. As of this posting, Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner are still “far apart” in a new deal, so it’ll be interesting to see what the 49ers do. However, the good news is that quarterback Brock Purdy is getting prepared to be the highest-paid signal-caller in the league, but that also comes with some long-term bad news.

The 49ers might have no choice and decide not to extend Kittle and Warner, and since the tight end is entering the final year of his contract, he could walk free anywhere to sign with a team that would give him a long-term deal. Originally selected in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Iowa product became one of the best tight end pass catchers in the league, recording six Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro honors. It isn’t the first time the 49ers have been stalling to extend Kittle, as they did this before with Nick Bosa, who got a new record-breaking extension in 2023, and the Brandon Aiyuk situation was talked about all last offseason.

It’s a new saga of players’ contracts that the 49ers have to get done, but these 5 teams may pursue him in a potential offer that San Francisco may not turn down.

Potential Next Teams

Los Angeles Chargers

It’s never a bad idea for the Los Angeles Chargers to get as many pass catchers in their unit. After signing Tyler Conklin, it seems like he will take Will Dissly’s starting job as the Chargers still lack a capable wide receiver. 2024 draft pick Ladd McConkey is the only wideout with a reliable set of hands, and veteran Mike Williams is past his prime. George Kittle could bring quarterback Justin Herbert back to life, where he thrives throwing the football.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, it’s no surprise the 49ers would want to send Kittle to an AFC team to avoid facing him in the playoffs. However, it might seem odd for the 49ers to trade the tight end to the Chiefs, considering their Super Bowl history. The Chiefs could offer a deal that San Francisco can’t turn down, as they’re looking to replace Travis Kelce, who is on the brink of retirement after this upcoming season.

Baltimore Ravens

Mark Andrews should be coming back, but it looks like general manager Eric DeCosta isn’t ensuring his future. If the trade happens, they should still target a veteran tight end to keep this roster championship-worthy. While Isaiah Likely is improving each season, he could benefit from Kittle’s presence as a two-deep threat.

Buffalo Bills

The Buffalo Bills don’t necessarily need a tight end since they have Dawson Knox, but being that they have yet to add a big-name receiver, they could trade for Kittle to fill the hole. Kittle isn’t going to play every down, but at least the Bills have more capable pass catchers on their roster. Perhaps, the Bills could send Quintin Morris or Dalton Kincaid in exchange for Kittle.

Washington Commanders

However, the Washington Commanders will need a tight end for their future. After trading for Deebo Samuel, it wouldn’t be surprising if Adam Peters continues to try to reunite his old 49er crew with Washington. Zach Ertz is on for another year, but Kittle has a little bit more juice to provide.
