Bills' Sean McDermott on Nyheim Hines: 'It does take some time'

November 17, 2022 by Bills Wire

Nyheim Hines has seen his contributions to the Buffalo Bills very limited in his first two games with the team.

At the 2022 NFL trade deadline, the Bills (6-3) dealt a late-round draft pick and running back Zack Moss to the Indianapolis Colts for Hines.

At the top, Hines is still waiting for a win in Buffalo. His new team has lost back-to-back games since his arrival.

It’s hard to blame Hines, though. In each of those contests, he’s mostly just returned punts. Hines has done pretty well there, averaging 10.1 yards per return with a long of 24.

On offense, he’s been very limited. Hines has taken only 10 snaps and has had one target from quarterback Josh Allen in each of those contests. Hines caught one of them.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott explained why Hines hasn’t jumped right into the deep end. The coach indicated that Hines is just being brought along slowly.

“It does take some time,” McDermott said. “It’s just opportunities and I’m sure over time he’ll continue to get more and more comfortable.”

For more from McDermott on Hines, see the attached WKBW-TV clip below:
