As the preseason rounded out, in a bit of a surprise, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen saw extended playing time. The recently-extended QB played about a half of his team’s exhibition season finale, which they won 19-0.
All things considered after watching Allen leave the game in one piece, the next part isn’t all that shocking.
CBS Sports named Allen a “winner” from the NFL’s final weekend of preseason football:
Josh Allen looked like he was on the doorstep of an MVP season during his final outing of the preseason against the Packers on Saturday. The Bills QB completed 10 of his first 11 pass attempts, which included a 31-yard laser to Gabriel Davis for a touchdown. He finished by completing 20 of his 26 throws on the day for 194 yards and two touchdowns. Allen was surgical and seemed to be picking right up from where he was during his breakout campaign in 2020.
MVP, surgical, no matter the word, they’re all true. If you’re one to trust reports from training camp, Allen playing well against the Packers came as expended. Fans have essentially been told all offseason that the breakout Allen from 2020 will be back this season.
Now we have the eye test to confirm that.
Allen, or rather the Bills, did get a little reckless in the game. The QB was hit a couple of times and even sacked right before his long touchdown pass to Davis.
That’ll make anyone’s heart skip a beat.
Still, no harm, no foul. The Bills have their quarterback standing strong heading into their regular season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 12,
He’s also probably a bit more confident after that one as well.
