Bills QB Josh Allen calls Buffalo 'match made to work'

August 8, 2021 by Bills Wire Leave a Comment

Bills quarterback Josh Allen got a lot richer on Friday. But that doesn’t mean he thinks it would’ve happened anywhere else but Buffalo.

Of course that’s possible, but following the announcement of his six-year extension that he signed, Allen gave credit to the team and city that embraced him in 2018 for making it possible.

“I personally just think it was a match made to work, me being in this great city here in Buffalo,” Allen said via video conference. “Trying to embody what the city is– blue collar, hard working, don’t complain, figure it out mentality.”

The QB did acknowledge that the past is the past, though. Now moving forward, Allen knows the bar is raised when you’ve got $258 million more dollars heading toward the bank.

“I know they didn’t pay me for what I’ve done, they expect me to continue what I’m doing and expect me to go win this team some championships,” Allen said.

However, this mentality is part of the reason for his extension as well. The Bills said they were comfortable with handing out the largest contract in franchise history to him because of that.

“Players like Josh don’t come along every year. They’re hard to find. Everyone’s looking for them,” Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said. “Josh still has a lot of work to do and he’ll say that. I love that.”

Bills general manager Brandon Beane added that the team will never be shy to pay up for any player of any position if they take such a mindset.

“We’re committed to Josh, we believe in Josh,” Beane said. “It sends a message to the locker room… these guys are getting extended. They’re doing everything we’re asking. Josh is a perfect example.”

Allen isn’t the first player  the Bills have rewarded in such a manner… and hopefully won’t be the last.
