The Buffalo Bills’ coaching staff is now on the board in terms of being connected to a vacant head coaching jobs.
According to longtime NFL writer Aaron Wilson, Buffalo defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is that man.
Reportedly, the team that is “expected to look” at Frazier is the Las Vegas Raiders.
It has long been anticipated in Buffalo that Bills assistants, namely Frazier and offensive coordinator Brian Daboll, would get interviews this offseason for head coaching jobs. Both received interviews a year ago, but did not land jobs.
Per reports at the time, Frazier was said to be a final candidate for the vacant Houston Texans position. However, the Texans ended up hiring David Culley.
Just earlier this week, Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott said via video conference he supports both Frazier and Daboll’s candidacies for head coaching positions around the league.
“I would welcome those opportunities for those men,” McDermott said. “They’ve done a phenomenal job for us here in Buffalo. I would give them my highest recommendations. I want nothing but the best for those guys.”
Earlier this month, a separate report said there were “rumblings” naming Frazier as a potential candidate for the Chicago Bears job. However, that role isn’t even open yet as Matt Nagy has not yet been relieved of his duties.
If Frazier does interview for the Raiders job, he is now allowed to do so over the course of the next two weeks.
The NFL introduced new rules regarding searching for new head coaches over the past month.
Teams can now virtually interview candidates during the final two weeks of the regular season. Previously such interviews did not happen until the postseason.
Bills Wire will continue to provide all updates regarding any Buffalo coaching staff members interviewing for jobs around the league.
