Bills’ Josh Allen ranks as second-best QB in NFL by B/R

September 27, 2024 by Bills Wire

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is in the midst of an incredible season for him as he attempts to lead the Bills back to the playoffs despite how much the team changed in the summer. Allen, who was just named Offensive Player of the Week for his performance in Week 3, seems to be getting his just due as well.

In a recent article by Bleacher Report, Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report put together a ranking of every quarterback in the NFL heading into Week 4 while also dividing the signal-callers into tiers. As many Buffalo fans could have anticipated, Allen is ranked second on the list behind Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Allen, who is now the betting favorite to win the Most Valuable Player of the Year award for most sportsbooks, has led the Bills to a perfect 3-0 record, making Buffalo one of just five teams that are undefeated heading into this weeks slate of games. So far, Allen has completed 54-of-72 (75.0%) passes for 634 yards and seven touchdowns.

Not only has Allen been a threat passing the ball, but he has proven that he can also terrorize defenses with his legs when the passing lanes aren’t there. Allen has also carried the ball 17 times for 85 yards (5.0 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.

Buffalo’s offense has not missed a step this season as they are the best scoring offense in the league (37.3 points per game) which is impressive considering that many doubted that the Bills could make up for the departures of wide receivers Stefon Diggs and Gabe Davis.

Just to illustrate how good Allen has been not only this season, but for the past few years, here’s what Gagnon wrote for why he placed Allen within the “Elite” tier of his rankings:

“The Approximate Value metric at Pro Football Reference registers Allen as the most valuable player in the NFL since the start of 2021. He leads the NFL in both passer rating and QBR in what might finally be his first MVP campaign.”
