Don’t tell Bills head coach Sean McDermott that the team’s Super Bowl window is closed.
Despite another disappointing playoff loss at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs, McDermott remains confident that Buffalo will circle the wagons and hoist a Lombardi before it’s all said and done.
“It’s not a matter of if. It’s just a matter of when,” McDermott told The Athletic. “That is the relentless pursuit.”
The coach admitted that he understands “fans’ frustrations” that the team hasn’t broken through yet. But adds that “there’s not too many organizations that can say” they’ve had the type of success the Bills have since he took over in 2017.
Buffalo has won the AFC East each of the last four seasons and is a combined 58-24 dating back to 2019, Josh Allen has emerged as one of the game’s most exciting quarterbacks — But at this point fans have learned that they’re going to have to ride the rollercoaster a bit when it comes to his turnovers.
The Bills haven’t been without some tough injury luck either, especially defensively. However, it’s hard to make the case that that’s the sole reason for their postseason struggles.
Buffalo is clearly a good football team but they were once a great football team in the 90s and still weren’t able to break through.
All fans can do at this point is hope next year will be different.
