The Buffalo Bills have proposed a new rule in terms of how many quarterbacks they can carry for a given game.
Right now, the NFL allows teams to designate an emergency quarterback for game day but the player has to be on the 53-man roster. That player also counts as one of the inactives for each game.
That’s not good enough for the Bills since they’re proposing a rule to allow a practice squad quarterback to serve as the third quarterback.
If that were to go through, two quarterbacks would be on the main roster while the other would be on the practice squad.
If this potential new rule gets enough support to be passed, it would be the second time in the last two years that this rule has been changed.
It was different heading into this season after the San Francisco 49ers got screwed over during the 2023 NFC Championship Game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Both of their quarterbacks got hurt in that game, which forced Christian McCaffrey to take some snaps at the position.
Let’s see if other teams feel the same as the Bills do when annual spring meetings take place later this month.
