Bills Hall of Famer Named A Potential Cut Candidate – Chargers, Saints Possible Landing Spots

February 1, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Von Miller Bills

Von Miller is one of the best pass rushers of his generation, but the future Hall of Famer may have played his last snap with the Buffalo Bills. After a dismal 2023, Miller proved in 2024 that he still has something left in his tank. Playing situationally, the eight-time Pro Bowler finished the season with six sacks, 17 tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, eight quarterback hits, and an 85.5 PFF grade on just 332 snaps. While he was effective when on the field, he’s not the superstar he once was.

The present-day version of Von Miller belongs on an NFL roster, but not at his current salary. The Bills veteran currently carries a staggering $23.8 million cap hit, and Bleacher Report notes that Buffalo can save $8.4 million by cutting him now or $17.4 million by designating him a post-June 1st cut. Perhaps he restructures and accepts a team-friendly deal, but Von Miller will not be on the Bills with his current contract. If the team cuts him, look for the Los Angeles Chargers and New Orleans Saints to bring him in.

Bills Von Miller Named A Cut Candidate – Could Land With Chargers, Saints

The Los Angeles Chargers may lose their top two edge rushers in 2025. Superstar Khalil Mack will play another season, but the impending free agent is under no obligation to return to the Chargers. Former first-round pick Joey Bosa, meanwhile, cannot shake the injury bug and hasn’t looked like his old self in a long time. While he is under contract, most analysts expect Los Angeles to cut Bosa at some point in the offseason. Even if the team re-signs Mack, they could use another pass rusher to replace Bosa.

Von Miller is a perfect choice for this job. While he might not be a full-time player at this stage in his career, 2024 proved that he can thrive in a situational role. Mack is an ageless wonder who can still play every down, and Tuli Tuipulotu has shown promise throughout his two years in the league. Rotating Tuipulotu and Miller will keep both players fresh throughout the season and ensure the Chargers always have multiple players on the field capable of taking down the quarterback. Additionally, Miller shouldn’t cost too much, which means the Chargers can use most of their cap space on improving the interior offensive line and pass-catchers.

Buying Low

The New Orleans Saints are at a crossroads. General Manager Mickey Loomis has mortgaged the future for nearly a decade now, and there’s no sign he’ll stop any time soon. Constant restructures have prevented the team from being able to sign top free agents, and the roster is littered with holes. Seeing as the team refuses to rebuild, Loomis and company have no choice but to buy low on aging veterans and hope they can squeeze out some solid play in their final years.

With Cameron Jordan a likely cut or trade candidate and Chase Young set to hit unrestricted free agency, the team must find another pass rusher. Von Miller played well in small doses for the Bills, so perhaps the Saints offer him an incentive-laden contract and an opportunity to become a full-time starter. Seeing as he only played in 33% of the defensive snaps last year, it shouldn’t be difficult to construct a contract with NLTBE (not likely to be earned) incentives that will not penalize the 2025 salary cap.
