Bills got away with a penalty during overtime goal-line stand vs. Vikings

November 16, 2022 by Bills Wire

The Buffalo Bills are feeling some type of way after losing to the Minnesota Vikings.

The one way they can’t feel is cheated.

The Bills (6-3) fell 33-30 in overtime. However, the NFL officials… did all they could to help them beat the Vikings (8-1).

Minnesota head coach Kevin O’Connell said that he thought the Bills had too many players on the field during their overtime goal-line stand.

Turns out, he was right.

On first down, Buffalo’s Matt Milano tackled Dalvin Cook for a three-yard loss. It was a snap from the two after another big catch from Minnesota receiver Justin Jefferson.

The next play saw the Bills sack quarterback Kirk Cousins for a 10-yard loss. Eventually the field goal from Greg Joseph from 33 yards out was the deciding factor, but Minnesota did have to step up and stop the Bills’ attack.

A touchdown would have ended the game.

If the penalty was spotted, the Vikings would have had another shot from the goal line, even closer. The ball would have been moved “half the distance” to the goal, a.k.a. the one.

All in all, the NFL got away with one there. Had the Bills won… woof.

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell posted this screengrab from the play in question. Clearly, that’s 12:
