The Buffalo Bills have been busy Wednesday with roster trimming heading into the start of free agency next week.
In addition to cutting All-Pro safety Jordan Poyer, Buffalo announced it will also be releasing veteran center Mitch Morse, wide receiver/return man Deonte Harty, defensive back Siran Neal and running back Nyheim Hines.
That’s not all either, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bills will also let go of two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Tre’Davious White. White will be designated a post-June 1 release, but is free to sign with a team when free agency opens next week.
This flurry of moves was made in the name of salary cap relief, as Schefter explained.
“The Bills’ cuts of S Jordan Poyer, C Mitch Morse, CB Siran Neal, WR Deonte Harty, and RB Nyheim Hines will create approximately $25.96M in salary cap space,” Schefter said. “Buffalo entered the day $40M over the cap. The release of Tre’Davious White will open up another $10.2M, but only after June 1st.”
A reporterd restructuring of standout cornerback Rasul Douglas’ contract will also save the Bills more than $2 million. Buffalo must be cap compliant by the start of the new league year next Wednesday.
Teams are allowed to negotiate with free agents beginning on Monday when the legal tampering period opens. Signings and trades can’t become official until the 2024 league year begins two days later.
