Bills' Case Keenum named top-10 veteran backup QB option

The Buffalo Bills have moved onto their third backup quarterback option over the past three seasons.

The Bills traded for Case Keenum to fill the void left by Mitchell Trubisky. CBS Sports released backup quarterback rankings, and he sees Keenum being a viable emergency option for the Bills if something were to happen to Josh Allen.

CBS ranks Keenum as the seventh-best veteran quarterback option, highlighting:

Keenum gets himself into trouble with his gunslinging style, but he also extends plays and wins over teammates the same way. A true journeyman after starting runs in Minnesota and Denver, he would’ve been a higher-upside backup plan for the 2022 Browns, who opted instead for Brissett as Deshaun Watson’s likely suspension substitute.

Trubisky saw limited action last season, playing in 33 snaps. He completed six-of-eight passes for 75 yards and one interception thrown.

In nine seasons, Keenum has completed 62.4-percent of his passes, totaling 14,874 passing yards. Keenum sports a career touchdown-to-interception ration of 78-to-48. He is a true journeyman as well, never spanning more than two seasons with a team.

Buffalo is Keenum’s seventh NFL team.

For Bills fans, the less they see of the backup quarterback, the better. It’s not a slight to Keenum, but to the fact that it means that Josh Allen is healthy. Still, it’s important to have a reliable emergency option, as the Bills cannot afford to take a major step back if Allen were to miss time for any reason.
