Bills' Brandon Beane, Jordan Poyer express positive vibes amid contract talks

July 27, 2022 by Bills Wire Leave a Comment

The Buffalo Bills have managed to find a way to retain their own players time and time again, even when it seems like it’s unlikely to happen.

General manager Brandon Beane deservedly gets plenty of praise for that.

But while Buffalo has become accustomed to that, they’ll have to take the other end of the spectrum too. The Bills will do a good job of keeping their own, but the team never talks about it until the extension is done.

All offseason, Beane has said little about the ongoing situation with safety Jordan Poyer, who has openly expressed a desire to stay in Buffalo beyond 2022. He’s in the final year of his contract.

Again, no updates were provided by either the executive or player as the team opened training camp this week. But the pair did at least express some positive vibes about things.

“I want to be here,” Poyer said via video conference. “That’s how I feel — I want to be here.”

“I’m going to continue to be a leader for this team and continue to do what I can help this team win football games,” Poyer added.

Adding to the intrigue was Poyer’s plus one early at training camp. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was spotted on the sideline.

Both Poyer and Beane said the two sides have been talking. We have yet to hear any conclusion, but discussions evidently are proceeding.

“I’m letting them handle that side of it,” said Poyer. “Drew’s here to talk things out with Brandon (Beane). I know he’s going to work, and I know Beane’s going to work and I’m optimistic that something will happen, but I’m just excited to be out here and playing football again.”

Beane had an upbeat reflection in his slight update he gave as well.

“Drew and I have a great relationship, as do us and Jordan, and Drew and I have had many conversations,” Beane said via video conference. “This just happened to work out for him to come up here and do this to start camp, but we’re good. I don’t talk about negotiations, but we love Jordan. Drew is great to work with and that’s probably the extent I’d be willing to talk about it.”

At this point, no extension has yet been inked with Poyer.

There’s plenty of time for that, so we’ll take the upbeat approach as a good sign for now.
