Miami is rolling and coming for first in the division.
Another week has come and gone in the NFL, which means it’s time for the AFC East Roundup. Good news for all of the Jets fans out there: This is the first week that the New York Jets have not lost a football game. Unfortunately, that’s only because they were on their bye. But hey, there’s always next week to try and get that first win.
The main takeaway from Week 10’s action is that the Miami Dolphins can be considered one of the hottest teams in football right now, and the sky’s the limit for their season. Tua Tagovailoa continued his winning ways as a starter by picking up his third straight victory, this time over the Los Angeles Chargers. Once again Miami’s defense stepped up big time. On the first drive of the game they blocked a punt to set up the offense at the one-yard line. Then with a six-point lead in the second half, Xavier Howard had a huge interception that led to a touchdown to give Miami a 12-point lead. In his second year as head coach, Brian Flores has the team buying in and only one game back of the AFC East.
The Buffalo Bills entered Sunday with a two-game lead over the Dolphins as they tried to get into the bye week with a victory over the Arizona Cardinals. It was a back-and-forth game until it appeared Josh Allen led the Bills to an amazing victory with a go-ahead touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs with about 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Shoutout to Diggs for an amazing grab as well. The problem for Buffalo was that Arizona has a likely future Hall of Fame receiver in DeAndre Hopkins. With the clock winding down, Kyler Murray threw a Hail Mary right at Hopkins who leaped out of the stadium to pull the ball away from three defenders. This was about the worst way possible for a team to go into their bye week. To make matters worse, if Miami wins next Sunday they will be tied with Buffalo for the lead in the AFC East, with the Bills’ Week 2 win providing the tiebreaker to keep Buffalo on top.
Meanwhile as Bills fans were trying to process what exactly happened at the end of Buffalo’s loss, the New England Patriots were set to battle to Baltimore Ravens. Many people including myself thought that this would be a cake walk for the Ravens, but boy was I wrong. Give the Patriots a lot of credit for battling as hard as they did, coming away with a 23-17 victory over a good Ravens team. It may seem like a long shot but like it or not, the team still has a chance to maintain their dominance in the division if they can ride a hot streak and get some help. The box score may not look pretty because of bad weather but head coach Bill Belichick did an excellent job with his football team to come away with a victory.
