90 players in 90 days: P Brad Robbins

Who will win the Bills’ 2025 punting competition?

The Buffalo Bills don’t punt very much of late. That’s a good thing, as they have boasted an elite offense for the entirety of this decade. In past years, we’ve discussed how Buffalo’s punting gig is really a holding competition, where the job referenced in the title is actually secondary to the main job the punter will do throughout the season.

While that may be technically true (Sam Martin punted 150 times over the last three regular seasons for the Bills, but between extra-point attempts and field goal attempts, he held for 253 kicks by Tyler Bass), a good punter who can flip the field and pin opponents deep is still a valuable asset for a squad. Buffalo felt it could be better in that department, so they released Martin and decided to go younger at punter.

In today’s edition of “90 players in 90 days,” we discuss one of the combatants in the punting competition set to take place this summer.

Name: Brad Robbins
Number: 40
Position: P
Height/Weight: 6’1”, 203 pounds
Age: 26 (27 on 10/6/2025)
Experience/Draft: 2; selected by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round (No. 217 overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft
College: Michigan
Acquired: Signed with Buffalo on 3/31/2025

Financial situation (per Spotrac): Robbins signed a one-year contract worth $960,000 overall. If he makes the 53-man roster, that will be his cap hit for the season. There’s no guaranteed money on the contract, so he can be released without the Bills having to carry a dead-cap charge.

2024 Recap: Robbins suffered a hip flexor strain during training camp, and he began the season on the Injured Reserve list with a return designation. The Bengals activated him at the end of September, and then waived him in early October. He didn’t sign with a team, so he missed the entire season.

In 2023, Robbins punted 76 times for a gross average of 44.3 yards per punt and a net average of just 40.3 yards per punt. That net placed him 26th in the league, one spot ahead of Buffalo’s punter that season, Sam Martin. 26 of Robbins’ punts ended in a fair catch, and 20 of his punts ended up downed inside the 20-yard line.

Positional outlook: Robbins and Jake Camarda are the only two punters on the current roster.

2025 Offseason: Robbins has participated in offseason work to date

2025 Season outlook: It will be interesting to see how the Bills divvy reps for their punters this summer, both in practice and in preseason games. While both have professional experience, neither Robbins nor Camarda has been special during their time in the league.

Buffalo will likely go with the player they feel is the better holder for Tyler Bass, unless one of the two punters is significantly better than the other in terms of hang time on their punts. Buffalo’s special teams group has prioritized hang time and limiting returns over distance and directional kicking in recent years, and I assume that trend will continue here.

Two men enter, one man will remain — unless, of course, Buffalo decides to look elsewhere for their punter once roster cuts happen. Who will be the Bills’ punter in 2025? Your guess is as good as mine, but we shouldn’t assume that either Robbins or Camarda is a lock for the roster come September.
