While we truly won’t know the answer to this question for years, on paper, Khalil Shakir was held in good regard by our friends at Draft Wire following the 2022 NFL draft.
Analyst Luke Easterling named every team’s “biggest steal” following the event. For the Bills, the Boise State receiver was the selection.
Shakir, a senior, was taken by Buffalo in the fifth round. The team traded up 20 spots to select him with the fifth pick in Round 5 at No. 148 overall.
In 2022, Shakir ended his college career with his best year. He record 77 catches for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns last season.
Prior to the draft, some predicted Shakir as a potential late Day 2 pick or fourth-round selection, including NFL.com. Instead, he goes to Buffalo in Round 5.
Shakir is a good candidate for this honor. If not Shakir, the other pick might be Matt Arazia.
Taken with the top selection in Round 6, the San Diego State punter was picked up by the Bills.
In the end, Araiza was the third punter selected at the draft, however, many were surprised by that. Pre-draft analysts thought Araiza might be the highest-ever selected punter in any draft year…easily he would be the first one taken then, right?
That ended up not being the case.
But if things go according to plan, the Bills might have gotten multiple steals on Day 3 of the draft.
